I wasted so much time ignoring this book due to all of the controversial and critical press it received. The book tour was even canceled – and it wasn’t due to Covid-19.
I’m not going to get into all the specifics of the criticism in this post, you can easily Google it. And who knows, the criticism may encourage rebellious types to want to read it even more!
American Dirt is now on my ever-expanding list of BEST BOOKS OF 2020 because it’s an engaging story with a fast pace and excellent, credible characters.
“American Dirt is an extraordinary piece of work, a perfect balancing act with terror on one side and love on the other. I defy anyone to read the first seven pages of this book and not finish it. The prose is immaculate, and the story never lets up. “
—Stephen King
Why do people risk their lives to get to America? American Dirt is one mother’s story of risking everything to escape a violent and corruption-filled life in Mexico.
Like many of you, I’m tired of all the political arguments surrounding immigration. Even though I have beliefs and convictions about legal and illegal immigration, I enjoy reading something that challenges what I think and believe.
American Dirt is a work of fiction, but so was Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
I highly recommend this book.
Praise for this book!

Interesting that you mention Uncle Tom’s Cabin because I’m listening to it now. It’s one of the many classics I never read. I’m lamenting and learning as I read it. American Dirt has been on my list since you posted a picture of it on IG.
